In Memory of Those Who Fought and Those Who Fight

on 03 September 2011

Stupid cancer: we all wish we had a new car, a new phone, a new house or to lose weight. A person with cancer only wishes one thing: to fight and win against cancer. Not everyone is this lucky.

A woman was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had surgery and lost both her breasts. She went through chemotherapy. She was sick a lot. She lost her 13-year-old daughter who couldn't put up with the pressure and stress. Her daughter moved in with her dad - in Mexico. Her 5-year-old daughter still lived with her and they moved back to the woman's hometown in Ohio.

Her 13-year-old daughter never visited. She just wanted the problem to go away. She moved back to the United States when she was 17. She did not go to Ohio to visit. Her mother did not talk to her much. Just an occasional email. They started talking to each other more. The tension between them disappeared. She planned a trip to visit her. A month before she turned 19 and two weeks before she went to Ohio, she got a phone call. Her mother had a relapse and passed away.

She fought cancer for six years. She lost the fight.

Her daughter found out her mother had been hospitalized three times after her passing. Her family never said anything. Her mother never said anything.

This post is to honor everyone who has fought and is fighting cancer.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to make it in time Mom. Rest in Peace.
